The Mercedes Guard models are actually armored versions of the Mercedes Benz S class cars. Usually used by diplomats and people who travel to high risk areas or who believe that they require additional protection aside from bodyguards or close-in security.

The Mercedes S500 Guard is the first official armored car that is factory offered to the American public. On the outside, it looks no different from the standard S500.

I gave it a closer look and the only noticeable differences I spotted were: the absence of the sunroof, and the special wheels-I was told they were run flats.

That’s from the outside. When I tried to open the passenger door, it felt heavier.
This is due to the steel plating.

Rolling down the windows revealed inch thick polycarbonate security glass and you can barely tell from looking at it from the outside.

It was explained to me that Mercedes S500 has level IIIA armor which is capable of stopping anything from a 9mm up to a .30 caliber round.

As for performance, the feel of the ride was rather heavy and stiff. Max speed is 130 mph down from the standard S500’s 155mph. Price? $143,000.

Ask your local Mercedes Dealership about how to order one of these armored babies.
